Sorry when you posted 711445x for me that meant, 7.1 million range.

However it is not in the 7million range so you actually have an early M1. As you already know

With your s/n in the 700k range it does fall within the first M1A1 block and dates to late 1942 to early 1943 manufacture. So re-barreled at some point

It should have a type I band and not a type II. The band being marked SI is a little odd as well as my book does not show a type II with that marking. It does show type III bands marked SI so it could have been something wrong in my book or a cut down type III. But your barrel does not appear to show signs of having a type III band ever on it. It having been re-barrelled could have something to do with that as well. Pics of the top of the band would be more helpful.

The flip safety should be a plain push safety. The magazine catch should also not have the M on it's face. It should be a thick plain faced catch (same thing I've been looking for)

The stock is correct and appears to be an original M1A1 stock as well. I have no idea what the star marking is however.

The rear sight looks ok to me but I am not seeing the peening on the cross pin. They are making some pretty nice repros of these sights. Hopefully someone with more experience with these will chime in on it's authenticity, or to correct anything I may have gotten wrong or omitted.

Thanks, do you know if I can replace the safety and mag catch on the existing trigger housing with the correct type ?

Also I think you are right I think now the barrel band is a cut down type 3 with the bayo piece removed.

The push safeties are abundant as repros and some are indistinguishable from an original. originals are few and far between and costly.

As for the correct magazine catch I have been looking for about 2 years now and have not been able to find one for my carbine either. There are repros of that style catch but they are not correct except for the face being with no markings. All the other dimensions are incorrect as well.

I am still suspicious about your rear sight even more so now that you say your band may be a cut down T3.

Looks to mee that only the stock is original.

Repro rear sight and cut off barrel band.

Greetings and get this book it has all the answers.
