What do you guys think of this one? The butt end of the stock has a duffle bag cut, but looks like it was repaired quite nicely. All numbers match and it does have the mag. My biggest question is value. Ive been offered this rifle for around $1700. Ive looked on gun sites and seen prices all over the place. Does it seem like a good investment?

Not many pics to go on and not too sharp either but to my eyes to stock has been really buggered. It looks like it has been well sanded so I doubt there are any markings left. Also it looks like it has been reshaped around the area of the hand grip and cheek piece areas, much like one that has been seen here recently. Sling mounts have been added which means it has screw holes there and I would bet the original slot for the sling has been filled in.
That all being said, the metal parts look like they are in good shape and if all matching another plus. Some folks would just leave the rifle well enough alone, some would strip the stock, remove the sling parts and fill the holes and reopen the sling slot to try and get it back to as close to original as possible and some would just keep the old stock but put the mechanism in a replacement stock so it "looks right" for display or re enactment or whatever.
To me the price seems a bit high. I would be more comfortable in the 1200 to 1500 range depending on condition of springs and barrel.
