very nice find. Do you think it is possible that the gun that used this drum was positioned in the attic and fired from there? do you know of any fighting that took place at that actual location in the war? Cheers, Torsten.

You know at first you may think this but do you really want to hear about how this drum took one round but the next one blew some 18 year olds brains out...

Collecting Maxim items had been thinking about it. I had a MG08 grip with a bullet hit right above the right spade grip. What are the chances the other rounds fired with it killed the gunner as he was being flanked. Owning two Maxims, one of which has battle history written on the side makes you think about how many lives were lost capturing and defending these guns.

Back to the drum in the pictures, is the round that hit it lodged in there?

You know, I forgot... I found the MG08/15 that was shooting at your lewis gunner!.... he took a nice hit in the jacket which left a nice bulge. This is from a very early 1916 MG08/15 parts kit I came across.

I also have a MG08 Sled with something like 14 hits on it. I am not going to post them here but if you are interest: http://mg42.us/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=...=battle#p84435

i think that this drum is battlefield salvaged somewhere in 1917-1918 and stored for next decades on the atic with other finds near verdun . this drum is verry interessting due to the fact that near 100 years nobody have changed the rounds in the drum not cleaned just a piece of history in original configuration the bulet is not inside the drum it is passed just from side
