    What is this?

Would anyone know what system these belong to? I could not find any markings anywhere. Cheers and thanks, Torsten.

would have been used in the Mg34 and Mg42 then the after the war the yugos got a lot of german gear and painted it green and used it in the Mg53 (which is the same as Mg42) i hope that helps

when they are tr period the markings will be on the lid near the handle (sometimes the paint is so thick it obscures the markings, othertimes not actually marked)

          * on a side note the yugos also painted the ammo cans green as well along with most everything else

so, with the ones I got here then there is no way of telling whether these are Yugoslav postwar made of wartime German? Sounds like, they were certainly postwar Yugoslav used ... ?

Is there a way of telling for sure?

You would have to study them very closely, to find the maker's codes and stamps. German ones are always stamped, Yugos not so always

yes I know, but without sandblasting the lot I cannot tell for sure. Airforce1 appeared to be very sure in your original assessment of it being Yugo, so I assume that there is another sure way of telling by some difference in the construction between German and Yugoslav that someone knows about ... but maybe not. Cheers, Torsten.

German marks are always on the cover, by the edge, usually near the release latch. Take a close look, as your's shows some red paint under the Yugo green. There is a chance of it being original german, and german paint under the yugo one, so don't sandblast but remove carefully with some turpentine or acetone, or other paint remover.
