Selling a rifle in Ohio, what's the law

I live in Michigan and hope to get a table at the Roberts Center. I have a Colt AR15 I would like to bring with to sell but don't know the law for selling a rifle there. Can anyone help me out? I have done only a couple of searches on the net but haven't found any information yet to answer my question.

    Thanks in advance.

    Be careful!

If you're from Michigan, and out-of-State - selling to someone from Ohio . . . I think you're going to need an FFL licensed person to conduct the sale/transfer for you - [basic] paperwork and background check. But wait for others to reply . . .

NEVER get in trouble with BATF. Learn all the rules and follow them.

Got my answer I needed, Thanks Willi Z.

Here's the portion from the site you provided...

          Purchase

No state permit or license is required to purchase a handgun, rifle, or shotgun.
It is unlawful to sell a handgun to a person under 21, or any firearm to a person under 18. It is unlawful to furnish any firearm to a person who is under 18 or furnish any handgun to a person under 21, except for lawful hunting, sporting or educational purposes.

It is unlawful to recklessly sell, lend, give, or furnish any firearm to any person who may not possess a firearm, or who is under the influence of alcohol or any drug of abuse.

Any adult resident of Ohio, not prohibited from acquiring firearms, may purchase a rifle, shotgun or ammunition in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Pennsylvania or West Virginia.

Federal Law and Interstate firearms transactions???

The information you quote appears to originate in Ohio Law . . . and if I am not mistaken, these rules apply to sales and purchases made through an FFL Dealer only. And as simple as that website may make Ohio Law sound, Federal Law would take precedent in any situation regarding the sale of firearms.

I would suggest you take a look at the BATF website . . . with a focus on INTERSTATE transactions. My understanding is that a FFL should be involved in almost any form of [private?] firearms sale across State Lines . . . and that all the proper paperwork must be completed, along with the obligatory background check, to complete the transfer legally.

But don't take my word for Gospel . . . maybe a quick call to an Attorney would be advisable - do you have one?

I would be interested in hearing more about this topic . . .

You are correct, my use an FFL to transfer between two people of different states.

I would certainly make the transfer through a dealer at the show, preferrably an Ohio FFL holder. I was only providing a link for basic information.

You can also sell it to an C&R with a copy of the license.

                    You can't sell a Colt AR-15 to a C&R holder!!!

Assuming it is the OVMS show you are attending, I will be there a good part of the day Friday and would be happy to do a transfer for you for $25.00, as I hold an FFL. However, there is a Central Ohio gun show that I will attending Saturday and Sunday so I will not be able to help you out those days.

When I last met with an ATF agent, I specifically asked her the question of selling long guns across state lines privately. Her response was that it was legal as long as there are no laws restricting such a sale in either state. As long as the sale would be legal in Michigan and Ohio (which it is), according to the ATF agent I talked to, the sale would be legal.

Also keep in mind that there is a law restricting the use of a 31 or larger round capacity magazine in the state of Ohio. If you bring a 35 or 40 rnd magazine or drum, keep it out of the gun. This is a loose law, that is rarely enforced, but should be mentioned to someone unfamiliar with Ohio law.
