    1917 dated P 08 questions

    Hello,
I’m not a guns person but here are some pictures of my wife’s P 08 which I have some questions on.
I believe the grips are post WWI as they aren’t very slender, is that true?
The wooden base of the magazine has the number 1806 with a + underneath and what appears to be 2 crowns each with a W, can anyone decipher the 1806 +?
The serial number seems to be 617 but some of the smaller parts are stamped 17. Does anyone know why?
    All help is much appreciated.

    Cheers

The Luger looks very nice, but I feel confident in saying that it is a fairly recent (last 20 years or less?) re-finish. The grips appear to be the post-WWII (60s on) replacements that were/are available. The extractor should be blued rather than strawed. While the gun is attractive as a re-blue, the current finish is mot the same color or polish texture of the original. The last two digits of the serial number is typically stamped on most of the smaller parts in order to keep them associated with the pistol during disassembly. This pistol was made by DWM of Berlin.

          Thanks for the reply.
I believe it was refinished in the 50s and thanks for confirming that all the parts belong together. It has been in my wife's family since April 1945 and my father-in-law used it when hunting if the animal was still alive after being shot the first time.
