G29o Mis-Matched or byf 42 Matched - Which one would you keep?

    Hey y'all:

I have a dilemma... Today I picked up this really nice G29o and I'm finding out it is rather hard to come by. What is a bummer is that the bolt is mis-matched. ALSO, the spring loaded plate is off by a few numbers - had to have been a factory error I'm guessing. The funky end-cap thing is mis-matched too.

I also have a byf42 K98 that is all matching that came "out of the woods" from the Vet's son as well. I'm not a collector of either really, but I like to have a nice example of a German Rifle in my collection.

The question: Which one would you keep? The G29o mis-match or the matched byf42?

The pics should show this Luft proofed baby pretty well.

    Thanks for your opinions!

IMHO, if your intention is to keep only one example, keep the matching one.
Nothing beats a matching gun with original finish both as a collectable as well as an investiment.

              just my two cents.

Collecting matching is sound advice, but consider also that you will see 40 matching byf42's for every 29o you see

Personally, I would keep the 29o. They are so much harder to come by than matching K98s. Of course, if you decide to keep the 98, I would gladly take the 29o off your hands

Too bad the G29(0) is not a 1938 dated specimen....Than you would really have something......I would say keep both, IF you can afford to do so......However, IF you can live with 29(0), with "warts and all", than I don't see where you could possibly go wrong.....Bodes

I would without a shadow of a doubt keep the k98. The German k98 was the backbone of the Wehrmacht. If you don't want it I'll take it off your hands!

                        Thanks...

Great input and I appreciate all of y'all's opinions. Well, I made a choice. I'm keeping the all matching byf42 - I've just had it too long and I'm kind of attached!

So, today I listed the G29o on GunBroker. We'll have to hide and watch from here to see how she does.

                        Thanks again,

The only real problem with the 29o is that the bolt does not appear to be the correct type for that rifle. It looks to be a 98k bolt rather than the 29o type. Unless someone happens to have a butcherd 29o with a non monkeyed with bolt laying around I would think that it will be near impossible to find the correct one for it.

Otherwise the MM aspect of the bolt is no big deal considering how rare the rifle is.
