    if the optics and mechanical parts are in good order and if it stays under $500 it would be a good bargain, even with a repro mount which in this case it might be. I would definately ask the seller for a lot more pictures, it would certainly help.

      Hi Ben, thank you also for the info. I have never seen a Zielvier with those elevation housing and almost thought it is not. Always nice to know something new!
      From the serial# and the checkers on the elevation disk edge, I assume it is a very early Zielvier from 1920s. I also guess it has a disk attached on the focusing knob. And one more thing, I have heard Zeiss Zielvier was not made after the war. What do you think?

        I concur with you Ken,

        it will probably have the seperate disc on top of the drum. The picture we have to go on here doesn't reveal much. I too don't think that steel tubed Zielvier's were produced after the war. I couldn't say if any were assembled from parts however.
        Attached another lousy picture if a Zielvier I used to own. It has an the same drum housing. Unfortunately I never documentated it. However, I do recal this one had the disc as well.
        If you handle the Zielvier's you'll notice that there are quite a few (minor) differences on them probably depending on when they were manufactured.
        Even if you take the standard drum housing you will see differences in the distance indicating arrow as well as how the housings were casted/machined with different tolerances. I have also noticed a variation in the drums used.

            Did Karl Kahles Wien make wartime scopes

              asking price gives it away

              at 100 dollars i would imediately suspect its a fake etc. why would such a valuable item be offered at a give away price. i would be suspecting maybe you would never recieve it even if you did buy it.
