P-38 Question

Forum Members, As I haven't bought a P-38 in about 15 years and am not current on values.....I am curious the rough estimate of a Mauser made 1944 dated P-38 with 1943 dated soft holster....The bluing is a strong 95% and comes with 2 magazines.....The holster is decent with about 85-90% finish.....Veterans name (?) scrawled inside the flap.....Some one has also added red paint to the back of the front/rear sight.....I have no doubt it could be removed with finger nail polish remover or ???.....Has typical black plastic grips for a Mauser made P-38.....

There are factors the need to be determined. An common 44 marked Mauser is worth about $700 to $800. A duel tone could be $1200 to $1400+ depending on condition. Police marked could bring $2000+

Holster would add about $150

I agree with the above comment. A matching P38 made by Mauser with a good finish and decent bore should fetch $700+ to the right person. I have picked up complete rigs with two matching magazines for as low as $600 up to around $900. They are my favorite German pistol!

Thanks Bob, It's not a dual tone and I did not look close enough to see whether/not it's Police marked.....I want to go back and see IF the magazines are Mauser proofed, WW2 vintage, or even post war made.....Than, I can do a look see as to whether it's Police marked.....

As for price, I guess they have gone up considerably.....The one I bought 15 years ago, I paid $450.....Complete with holster.....
