    Unknown Pistol Grips

These came in a big lot purchased here on WAF, the seller threw them in with some TR stuff which included a few items he knew to be repro items (and sold as such). They seem low quality to me, but what little I know about handguns is mainly reserved for British service revolvers.

    Thanks!

Huh, won't let me upload a pic of the inside. If any one wants it, I can try again later!

When original it should be on Mauser or Walther production pistols.

Are these repro then? Or original? I don't know, and neither did the seller.

These grips were made by AEG and supplied to Walther, Mauser and early CYQ P.38 pistols. They appear to be original.

                      strose,
What color are the grip echelons. (Retaining nut)? It's hard to see from the photos. They should be black or silver. If the same color as the grip then maybe a re-pop?

The re-pops are getting better, but are a different material. If you don't have a original one to compare to it can be tough to an untrained eye.

These are reproductions made from molds which were made from AEG originals. Notice how rough they are. Originals were almost completely smooth. Have a look at the additional interior mold marks which originals don't have. These grips do not appear to be made of bakelite. The grip escutchons look to be made of the same plastic as the grips. Originals were of steel.

Sounds like they were not misrepresented, so no harm done.

I agree. They look to be re-cast phenolic resin reproductions.

Yes, I agree these are repro. The grip escutchons are not separate from the grip material, and on one grip is completely smooth, just a hole, the other is nicely threaded, perhaps from the insertion of a screw. Also, not bakelite.

Thanks for the comments! Learned a lot! Off to the Bazaar with these!
