Picked this up awhile back, rough shape, but same price as a P-1 postwar. Chris...

More of the AC41, probably would have passed except for the code...

Do you think the pitting is from blood? Sounds like a good price. How is the bore?

Thats not blood. Blood usually takes off the finish but does not pit the metal to the extent this pistol shows. Most likely exposed to water.

The pistol had been in a holster for a long time when I acquired it from the estate. Bad combination there probably resulted in this I'm guessing. Chris...

And I had an argument that was decidely acrimonious with the owner of a ww2 1911a1 pistol that had been stored in its holster since 1945 with no pitting whatsoever. I had not seen the piece and was discussing proper storage of such and letting him know that you do not want to keep the piece in its holster when he brought it out and showed his pristine gun to me, ditto for the P38 he has as well. Generally speaking though, holsters are not the best storage spot for a collectable firearm. The P38 was a CYQ 45....the 1911 a AA refinish with plastic grips. Neither gun worth much and both brought back by his Father who was a medical officer (Captain) at the Bulge.

I've lived in climates where I NEVER had a spot of rust on a gun-never even worried about checking, I've lived in other climates, where you better be checking from time to time...it was the constant enemy. That may have a lot to do with it. I also wonder about the tanning salts, etc. that are in the holster.... Chris...

Good points too Chris, I stay on top of my gun collection during the humid Summer months especially.

It is far from pristine, but still a nice early P38
