    Japanese Rifle For Artillery Spotting?

Can someone please help me identify this Japanse Rifle, arsenal and value. I think it is a Type 99 Artillery Spotting Rifle. There is a brass bushing that is threaded in the bottom off the stock. I recently purchased this gun from the 94 year old veteran that brought it back from the war. Thanks for your help.

It is a type 38. If you can show a picture of the serial number and markings we can identify arsenal and series.
Very cool with the artillery spotting bushing in the stock! Is the bushing marked?

Sorry that was the wrong serail number. The correct one is 89099 and it looks like the arsenal marking is Nagoya.

I've never heard of an "Artillery bushing".....and while I don't profess absolute knowledge of Japanese rifles......I've handled "hundreds" over the years....what keeps this from just being a "rack" locking system...(a long rod thru the hole made thru the stocks to prevent unwarranted removal).... which also "I've never heard of".....( on Japanese rifles, that is...)

It maybe something "new".....but it's not referanced in any of the Japanese Referances I have....willing to learn....what's the source of "Artillery spotting" story....?

                      Thanks...

Straight from the most advanced collectors/authors on Japanese weapons:
                        http://forums.gunboards.com/showthre...+spotting+type

Seinen seems to imply it was actually used for tank gun training. I am inclined to agree with him as he is a very reliable source for Japanese training rifles. However, the rifle he posted is modified differently than the original rifle in the above post as well as the OP's rifle in this thread. I wish he would have posted the scans of the manual he said he was going to post.
