Very nice piece. I also looks like they were Minnesota Twins fans by looking at the crest..

Only seven Turkish Lugers are "known" by collectors in the US. These have been examined and verified. Once accepted for service by the Turkish Government they have never been released to individuals or for sale.

The Turkish Army variation (those identified) do not have the 'emniyet' safety and 'akes' extractor. There are known to be at least two Turkish Army models that appear to be 1936 marked Mauser Banners with Gesichert safety and Geladen extractors with the with the TC Turkish National Crest with a 1/2 Moon & Star on the right receiver and 'Subaylara mahsustur', which is translated into "for Army Officers Use". Estimated 250 produced.

The TC found over the chamber. The TC represents "Turkiye Cümhüriyeti" or Republic of Turkey. The Emniyet Işleri Umum Müdürlüğü translates into Security Police Headquarters.

The three variations of the Turkish Luger known are the Security Police Model (of which is shown above) with an estimated production of 750, the Turkish Army Model with an estimated production of 250, and a Turkish Air Force Model which were reported to be supplied with 25 Focke- Wulf fighter planes supplied by Germany in 1941.

Few solid findings that can help collectors to establish a firm classification of the few Turkish Police Lugers that have been reported to date:

The serial numbers that have been found so far:
                Police 61 - Authenticated
                Police 101 - Authenticated
                Police 128 - Authenticated
Police 130 - Holster only, listed for reference
Police 411 - Holster only, listed for reference
                Police 495 - Authenticated
Police 628 - Not fully authenticated*
Police 658 - Holster only, listed for reference
                Police 945 - Authenticated
Police 119 v DE/63 missing on frame, dimple in top of ‘T’
Police 589 v DE/63 missing on frame, dimple in top of ‘T’
Police 829 v DE/63 missing on frame, dimple in top of ‘T’

*Note: SN 628 is not fully authenticated, as the picture shown in Keynon's 'Lugers at Random' does not include the back of the frame, the stamping on the chamber and the left side of the receiver. The barrel is marked with an unusual and pantographed "Kal. 9mm", not reported on the other pistols. Furthermore, Kenyon states that it has a DWM stamped toggle.

Properties of the Turkish Police Lugers without the 'v' suffix:
                1. Toggle Logo – Mauser Banner, 8 lines banner as seen on GNR Portuguese.
                2. Left receiver – SN, no letter suffix and the horizontal (small) Crown U left of it.
                3. Right receiver – Stamped on its right side Emniyet Iþleri Umum Müdürlüðü*, which translates into General Directorate of Security Affairs. The ‘ü’ characters have a leading tail. There is also a droop Eagle/63 acceptance stamp, right from the Turkish text.
                4. Barrel - Four inch 9mm barrel, from top to bottom: DE/63 proof mark, serial number, Crown/U proof mark. Sharp barrel band.
                5. Barrel and receiver witness marks – Found on both the barrel and receiver.
                6. Two digit serialization of small parts - in the standard military manner.
                7. Finish – rust blue on all major parts, strawed small parts.
                8. Extractor - marked on left side with ates (loaded), #945 has 2 last digits of SN on it.
                9. Frame – Grip safety not installed, stock lug without the Mauser round tool mark, short DWM frame without the Mauser 'hump', emnÃ*yet (secure) as safety marking. On the right side, above the trigger guard a droop Eagle/63 is found.
10.Chamber – Stamped with an intertwined ‘TC’ – which stands for Turkiye CümhürÃ*yetÃ*; Republic of Turkey.
11.Grips – Last two digits of the serial number on the inside.
12.Firing pin – White fluted, has the last two digits of the serial number.
13.Rear Axle pin – numbered with the last two digits of the serial number.
14.All pistols examined show heavy use in a warm climate.
                * Due to restrictions on the Luger Forum's set of characters 'þ' should read as an 's' with a comma underneath, and 'ð' as a 'g' with a '~' above.
