    Mg 34/42 Basket & drum

    opinon on this would be helpfull. both 50 round drums are dated 40 and tan, the basket has sme tan paint bur is 43 dated any opinions welcome best martin .

          I think it is very simple: the drums dated 1940 would originally be painted ordnance blue, so the tan is not original to them. You can see the tan chipping off one of them and showing the original colour under. The carrier, dated 1943, would most probably be painted tan, so the dark paint it has is post war, and you can see the original tan showing under. So, to conclude, you should wipe off the blue of the carrier and inspect the drums well, just to make sure the tan is/or not period repaint. If post war, then wipe it off also.
