Members of the Free Syrian Army discovered 5,000 STG44s in a container. If only they know what they were worth and could somehow sell them off and fund their battle for a LONG time!

Anyway, yes - this is very old news among the worldwide gun collecting community. Do some searches on this forum and you will find great feedback on the topic from various WA Forum members.

Perhaps old news but this is my first time seeing it, you can imagine how I feel right now. So they got 5,000 stg's but how many rounds of ammunition could they accumulate?

They have plenty of ammo for it (if they can liberate it as well). All the middle eastern StG44s came out of Yugoslav or East German stocks that went surplus when those states rearmed with AK rifles. They were sold (or gifted as was the case with Libyan StGs) with an ample stock of ammo as both East Germany and Yugoslavia both had active manufacturing lines for 7.92 Kurz well into the 60's. Privi Partizan of Serbia (former Yugoslavia) is still the main source for new 7.92 Kurz. The StGs in most cases went straight into storage on arrival so ammo stocks should be more or less intact.
