Looks like a Russian captured P38.

It looks like it. There is an "X" on frame.

Russian captured and dipped. it is a correct police marked P.38

I'm not one to accept a RC in my collection, but this is one of those acceptations A hard to find variation. But the price would have to be right.

              I'm with Bob here.
At least a nice filler, if priced accordingly.

Agree, this is likely a Russian captured pistol. The serial number without letter suffix shows the gun to have been manufacturered in about February, 1944. Another RC indication is that the grips have been trimmed at the top, and they will also have been cut down at the rear just above the hammer spring strut. The Russians were in the habit of doing this, why, I know not. The grips are AEG grips as they should be, but the chocolate brown color shows them to be originally from an earlier gun, likely manufactured in 1941 or '42.

If the gun is excellent shape inside and out and has a perfect bore and no import markings (some escaped this) then it's likely worth almost as much as an unmolested war souvenir bring back. I have one like this, an ac43. The only way you can tell that it's an RC is that the locking block plunger is blued from the dipping process that the Russians used.
