    Mp38 pics

Got this gun from an NZ auction. Full auto. The stock is a wee bit 'sloppy' and the gun has some wear (to be expected!). Mp 40s are a lot more common on the ground here. The cocking handle has what I think is a field modification. A slot has been cut, I THINK, to accommodate a strop that holds the cocking handle and bolt forward to prevent accidental cocking and 'slam fires'. My Mp 40 cocking handle has a slip on sheet metal cover that can be pushed in to lock the bolt in the closed

Hello, Lovely Mp38, I take it you swapped mags from the 3rd to the 4th picture, if not that's one interesting mag you have! I have the far more common younger brother, an Mp40, bnz 42. Jonathan.

No, not at all. It's the same mag. Came with the gun. I have other 38/40 mags Nd they are. Bit different.

        Hi,
It's not just the mag changed in picture #4 the gun has metamorphosed into an MP40!
The cocking handle on the MP38 is the later type from the MP40 but it has lost its outer part which locates into the safety notch cut in the receiver in the forward position.
It was a standard modification to MP38s for safety reasons - unmodified guns can be found but are scarcer.
        Hope this helps!

LOL! Yup. I've mixed the pics up. The last ones ARE of then! MP40! I have the 38; 40 and 41. As you can see, my first attempts at uploading pics were not too successful.
