    K98 Mauser opinions

    Hi All,
These are the only images I have.
Can I please have some expert opinions on the K98 Mauser.
I have been told its a Russian ground back BNZ SS K98 Mauser all with matching numbers.
What value would something like this be?
    Many thanks in advance.
    cheers

Need help with this gentlemen, your thoughts and knowledge much appreciated if you could assist.
I do believe its correct from the pictures to be 100% German WW2 , only not sure on the SS issue that once had BNZ markings.
Would like to know more of what these markings could mean.
      Anyone out there?
      Cheers

Hard to tell much from those pics. Not sure what "Russian ground back" is. Is it a Russian capture? Is it a de-act? More and better pics needed.

          Hi Wilhelm,
I have been told that the Russian ground back is on the top of the breech where you would normally see the BZN & date markings. It is a Russian capture and not deactivated, it still works.
I will try and request more photos, is there any areas of the rifle in particular you would like to see better pics of?
          cheers

            G'Day nco,
Mate better(close ups) of the reciever top and side where the single "s" looks like it is stamped. Any marking the Russians may of put on the K98?

Russian captures have an "X" stamped on the receiver. Stock should be force # matched on left side. Looks like it has been cleaned up from RC condition. RCs are going between $250 and $450 over here. Never heard of an RC with all matching #s.

If someone wants to sell it they should provide all the pics you want. Also, the asking price is important. Good luck.

                    Hi Wilhelm,
I agree, I need to know what this particular K98 is all about before I can consider anything.
                    cheers

If it is a matching rc, it was probably matched by mitchels mausers.

That forum would also be a great place to ask about value.

                        Russian captured k98's

Most of the UK k98's are RC's but I've never seen one with the date and manuf codes ground off like this. I'd be interested to know if this was common/uncommon practice.

From what I have seen I would offer not more than $700 ...there is little bluing left....they are fantastic rifles.....!
