This is a case of opportunists trying to cash in on a national tragedy. Fortunately in my case I have ample stocks of ammunition and can reload more if necessary. I would strongly recommend that those of you who don't currently re-load consider taking it up. I suspect this current "frenzy" will subside later in 2013 just like it did the last time in 2009.

The only gun store in the Seattle area that has AR15's (that I am aware of) wants $3000 for a Colt 6920!! If I am not mistaken those are generally about $1000...
The cheapest they had was one with a Stag lower for $1600. I don't remember what the upper was, but I am sure the whole gun was about half that 3 weeks ago.

My local gun shop had a rack full of "assault" rifles and 40,000 rounds of .223 when the school shooting took place. Within a couple of days all the rifles and ammo were gone. What is it that makes people wait until it has all gone up to decide they need to stock up. Normally when everything subsides, the ones that just had to have the rifle and ammo are the first ones trying to sell theirs.

So I guess if you are 50 and running to buy guns... yeah you should have been more prepared. However the young have been fighting a bad economy for years may now find themselves in bad positions because of external factors.
I am 30 years old, 3 kids, mortgage and no family money. I have a nice collection from Blackpowder to registered MGs. In the 10 years since I shot my first gun I have been buying them at a rate hard to beat. Do I have all the guns I want for the rest of my life... no... not close. So I completely understand why people are jumping on whatever they can now. Its just money... more worthless every day. If you are buying a gun you really like, you will not remember what you paid for it but you will remember how much you enjoyed shooting it!
