This is a case of opportunists trying to cash in on a national tragedy. Fortunately in my case I have ample stocks of ammunition and can reload more if necessary. I would strongly recommend that those of you who don't currently re-load consider taking it up. I suspect this current "frenzy" will subside later in 2013 just like it did the last time in 2009.

Guess this makes Obama the ammo and gun salesman of the year. Go figure!

try getting an ar 15 locally. In denver, every place was sold out except one and they wanted $2500 a piece. I finally found one in GA and it was the last one out of a shipment of 100

And I was starting to worry about the price increase for 5.45 ammo.

The only gun store in the Seattle area that has AR15's (that I am aware of) wants $3000 for a Colt 6920!! If I am not mistaken those are generally about $1000...

The cheapest they had was one with a Stag lower for $1600. I don't remember what the upper was, but I am sure the whole gun was about half that 3 weeks ago.

Luckily my supplies are more than adequate of both ammo and magazines.

at a gun show today one table wanted 1980.00 an 3 others wanted 2800.00, I made a couple comments while passing one table, the guy didn't say any thing just kinda stared at the floor with embarrassment. ammo was of the charts there to.

My local gun shop had a rack full of "assault" rifles and 40,000 rounds of .223 when the school shooting took place. Within a couple of days all the rifles and ammo were gone. What is it that makes people wait until it has all gone up to decide they need to stock up. Normally when everything subsides, the ones that just had to have the rifle and ammo are the first ones trying to sell theirs.

Yeah me too, it sure sucks. Esp for us MG shooters. I can do 1000 rounds in one shoot...

No not really. If anything I think this as the last Obama election panic has shown that reloading is no solution! Primer Powder and bullets are out of stock everywhere. All new production is going into new production ammo. So that expensive reloading rig is just as worthless unless you found a way to make or reuse primers... Yes you could have stocked up on primers and make your own lead bullets and stocked up on powder... but then you could have just stocked up on surplus or new ammo too... Now you may get more bang for your buck but I also bet factory ammo will "keep" longer than reloads... So if you ask me its a very bad selling point used by reloader manufactures to sell product. For the record I have a Dillions 550B and reload 45ACP and 45LC. So I am no reloader hater!

Its not opportunists, its supply and demand! If prices did not rise, No AR in the country could be bought right now. As it is, you may pay double or triple but you can get one! Also its people saying I don't need 10K of 22LR, let me trade some in at current prices and get AR15s at current prices because the AR15 are more likely to get banned. In the end, he is buying and selling at 2x-3x prices... If you don't like it the way to show your displeasure is not to buy and the prices will drop as supply gets back to demand. Yeah hopefully 6 months after the federal bans die, prices should start coming back to the new normal... whatever that will be.

I guess it all depends on what you are getting. Some high end ARs are not that jacked up in prices because so many are buying quantity over quality. Its not hard to get $2.5K in an AR!

Well I guess I can use myself as an example. I live in MD. I am not afraid that a nation AWB will pass. However one will come in my state almost for sure. So even though I have the AR for my collection... now I must think about what guns I want to be able to pass down to my 3 and 1 year old and to those sons yet unborn... So I am looking to add an AR or two that I had not really considered buying before. I must also buy some pistols I wanted and had been putting off because I was saving for my next MG (which takes a while).

So I guess if you are 50 and running to buy guns... yeah you should have been more prepared. However the young have been fighting a bad economy for years may now find themselves in bad positions because of external factors.

I am 30 years old, 3 kids, mortgage and no family money. I have a nice collection from Blackpowder to registered MGs. In the 10 years since I shot my first gun I have been buying them at a rate hard to beat. Do I have all the guns I want for the rest of my life... no... not close. So I completely understand why people are jumping on whatever they can now. Its just money... more worthless every day. If you are buying a gun you really like, you will not remember what you paid for it but you will remember how much you enjoyed shooting it!
