You wont get any more in-depth than these three books! Not cheap but well worth it if you intend to start collecting Lugers.

Sal, of course these books are more for Military Lugers. So I guess it really depends on what type of information your looking for?

I'll have to look at "Borchardt & Luger Automatic Pistols" Recommended by Esco9015. 2012 so looks new on the market?

The new three volume set by Sturgess and Gortz is an excellent reference. It contains new and fresh information, and should be in every Luger collector's library. The series by Jan Still does a great job of covering the military Lugers, and also the new Mauser Luger book by Hallock and van de Kant is excellent.

The DVD accompanying the Sturgess/Gotz book is almost worth the price by itself...highly recommended!

The Sturgess-Goertz series shown is the ne plus ultra of the literature regarding this famed pistol. The set shown above is published by Simpson Ltd and is in the form that the authors originally intended while the version published by Collectors Grade Publications apparently is not. Both versions are gems of the publishers art and supplant if not easily surpass the older and still wonderful Still series. When you hold the newer books in hand, you'll immediately see what I mean.

Both versions are very pricey and surely destined to become more valuable with the passage of time. Only the Simpson published version shown above has the two DVDs accompanying it. I purchased my copies off of eBay and paid only 250USD postage paid for the Simpson version shown above. Buying it directly from Simpson will be at least 50usd more. I just visited eBay and there's a set of the newer version available for less than the 250 quoted. But be assured, the value of these titles will continue to climb.

I suggest you go to the eBay site and I'm sure you can find it. If not, PM me and I'll send a link. And no, I'm not shilling for the seller.

The first set of Gortz/Sturgess books were arranged in no apparent logical order. I guess it made sense to the publisher, but to no one else. I will have to give the nod to the original set in photography. Some of the photos in the new set are also smaller than in the original set.

That is where the CD with the .pfs file comes in. It contains full-resolution images of all the photos, etc. which can be enlarged at will.

Only works if you have a computer. I was given the CD (s) by a friend that doesn't do the internet. He has both sets of books though.
