The first Weaver M73B1 scopes had all the military nomenclature put on with an electro-pencil, but that has led to many civilian Weaver 330C scopes being engraved in the same manner. Could you post a better picture of the area with the serial number?

Does it have crosshairs?

Not a good closeup, but this shows a later scope with the SERIAL NO. applied with a roll die, and the serial number applied with the electro-pencil. The electro-pencil used a tiny electrical arc to etch the numbers.
