I would say reblued, as the welding spots are also blued.

Hard to tell from the pictures, but it looks like at least some of the gun has been re-blued.

I would probably get an opinion on the stamping. Some of these firearms especially the K98 get restamped with matching serial numbers, so they bring in a higher price. I can't tell from the photo's if it has been done to this or not. Great piece of history you have. I had to get one for myself a few years ago.

I don't know if this helps?
This is a code 'ayf'' Erma assembled MP40 dated 1943. Serial number 9248u.

You guys are good, but are you able to identify what part/s of the MP40 has been reblued??? I haven't bought it at this stage...

Taking into account it is made up of two different MP40 (2075c and 9428u) and it is all same colour, welding spots included, I keep on thinking it is completely reblued. Nicely done, anyhow.

Carles, I think you mixed up two separate guns.

                              Mp 40

                              Hi,
My first de-act MP40 also had those weld spots (which annoyed me no end) and mine had been reblued.
Until I saw the welding on your example I thought it looked pretty original. I've no idea when this work was done on some MP40's - it was obviously done to reinforce the bond between the mag housing and the main receiver tube.
MP40's were widely used around the world post-war, any info on the likely perpetrators of this modification would be interesting.
                              Good hunting,
                              Grossfuss
