When I got the rifle I took it apart to check the serial numbers I couldn't see. The barrel band spring, firing pin, hand guard, and trigger were good. All the numbers match, while I had it apart I cleaned it and oiled it. I forgot to put the sling and sight hood back before taking the photos.
What a job it was to take off the sight hood and put it back, its amazing how strong that steel is.

              Hi,
              A nice rifle!
Here's another byf 41 - the sling has been replaced since the photos.
All-matching, including cleaning rod, but sympathetically deactivated.
              Well done,
              Grossfuss

Grossfuss, thats great looking rifle. I love the solid walnut stock. It's a shame it had to be deactivated.

                            Hi Guys,
Thanks for the comments - my rifle actually saw service in German-occupied Guernsey which gives it a special touch.
I'm very glad I was able to get my hands on it but, funnily enough, I've always preferred the laminated stock!
A long time ago I had another Guernsey K98k a "42 1940" which had a laminated stock but the flat heelplate.
A European collector friend sent me a couple of photos of a pair of mint 44-dated K98k's, both laminated, one red glue - one white glue.
What wouldn't I give for one of those!
                            All the best,
                            Grossfuss
A couple more pics - in 1941 they still had time to get busy with the WaA stamps!

It's a pity here in the UK deactivated ones outnumber live firing by about a 100 to 1 I've been looking for a good firer for ages at a sensible price.
