I'm about to purchase this pistol, but I don't know anything about it, anybody knows were I can find historical background, and what it's value?

I'll take a first stab, because this appears to be a rather rare early model with a grip safety. I think the caliber is 9mm Browning, not 9mm Parabellum... and that these were sold on the civilian market. I would expect there to be the usual commercial proofs to that effect. It's hard to tell from the markings, my only concern, so to speak, is that the lettering appears a bit faded/rounded, which could indicate that it was polished at some point and reblued (a long time ago): again, hard to tell, and I defer to the many who are truly knowledgeable. Even so, at least in the US, I'd expect something like this to go for somewhere around $1500-2000 or so at retail prices, with the spread reflecting whether it's been refinished or not.
