SS Walther Gold Presentation

This is the newest addition to my home.

This is one of the nicest SS Presentation Gold Engraved PP's you will ever see. Serial number (215372) is right in the middle of a solid block of FACTORY engraved presentation guns, including a gold engraved to Himmler (215335), a gold engraved to Albert Speers (215361), and a gold engraved to Herman Goring (215366). This one comes with the usual ivory grips and a deep quality chiseled engraving that is easily seen in the photos. Even the grip screws are engraved. These presentation SS pistols are not the typical engraved quality, they are the highest quality chiseled engraving. Although the identity of the original owner of this pistol hasn't yet been identified, research is now ongoing to obtain this information. A true collectors prize.

John, #215 361 P is not gold finished. Speer's gun is a simple blued ornamental engraved PP with standard Walther plastic grips. His initials are on the back strap. He surrendered it to an USAF General and it is in the Air Force Museum. You can read about it in Rankin's Volume II.

Truly a spectacular pistol. Congrats!

However, not sure I see any SS related embellishments or personalization. Absent documentation from Walther that it was purchased by the SS or evidence of it being presented to a member of the SS - I am curious what makes it SS? As I recall Wolff's and other SS associated engraved PP's have clear SS embellishments and/or are named to a specific SS officer. It is my understanding that engraved Walther pistols such as this one were individually ordered vs. purchased in quantity for later finishing, in some cases personalization and delivery.

I'm just stunned by the level of engraving and that gold plating. I think that this gun has never been handled without cotton gloves (or the plating has been reapplied at some point).

BTW - Do you guys know if Walther offered these engraved guns in chrome - or was this just a gun waiting to be quilted in gold (or removed from gold):
