I'm thinking about getting this k98, it is a Russian capture by the looks of it, but, it is in very good condition and it is cheap enough.
It is a 1938 (42) mauser and seems to have matching stamped numbers 9152 (There are no elctro pencil numbers).
The pictures aren't great, but they were the best I could do on the mobile phone.
Questions:
1.Are the serial numbers original? or would it have been re-numbered by the Russians?
2.I assume it has been re-blued and the stock has been varnished?
3.Is the stock correct?
4.I notice there is a groove for a hood on the front sight. Is that a standard modification for a 1938 rifle?
Basically any help would be much appreciated.
P.S. Anyone know of a website where the different developements of the k98 is shown clearly?
