look in my ww 1 stuff and found a lot of marked material with
AWS
AWST
AWM
AWDr
this stamps are in cassings metal amo cans and leather items
a friend told me that the awm markings are artilerie werkstäte
Dr stands for düseldorf
M ............... münchen
st ................ stuttgart
s ............... spandau
the numbers are the first for month or arbeits gruppe
the second for year
here is a pic of my horsewhip

holster is also made by arbeits gruppe 23 in 1915
it is the first short leather that i have see normal leather have
pouch for spare spring and cleaning rod .
any collector have a similar ??

Short Mauser Carrier
These carriers preceded the style we are used to seeing. They are the earliest variation used by the German Army in WW1. They are not machine gunner unique. You have a very nice and rare example. It took me years to find a collector grade earlier carrier as their shortcomings are obvious when you put a pistol in it. I suspect not many survived the war. The later versions were much sturdier with the stock cup.
