Well i'm learning fast here, you lot seem to know your stuff, just blown up the british stamp mark and there is a .410 stamp on it.

The dealers want £495 (about $760) for it, so not that cheap really, but like you have said not bad for a all matching over here in the UK or am I wrong on that.

Really looking for a all correct k98 to sit nicely in with my collection, so may pass on this one, Thanks for all the help anyway.

There should be serialed the stock wit same number as barell or reciever offcource. The barell is probably reworked then for other caliber?

Is the stock numbered on the bottom to match?

Still looks sanded - RC to me but if its a matching port contract rifle that would be way more interesting...

( I learned about the .410/barrel in this thread as well so I'm done for today )

          K98 rifle

          Hi,
As a former worker in the gun trade I can confirm what has previously been said regarding the lengthened barrel.
There was a fashion, back in the 70's, to bore the K98 out to .410 to convert it to a shotgun, thereby removing the more stringent requirements of a Firearms Certificate (FAC). However the barrel had to be lengthened to 24 inches to conform with the regulations for a shotgun.
Is this gun still able to fire the .410 shotgun cartridge or has it been de-activated later?
If it is a deact there's no legal reason why the barrel could not be shortened back to its original length, as the shotgun laws no longer apply.
The all-matching side may be attractive but the extra work done on it (meaning a reblue as part of the operation) and those profuse British proof marks would spoil it for me.
Many years ago I was able to purchase a Panzerschreck on a Shotgun Certificate because it "had a smooth barrel over 24 inches in length"! I don't have it any more so don't ask!
Good luck with the search - all-matching K98k's are surprisingly hard to find.
A friend paid a lot of money to Henrik Rask for one over a year ago and after a bit of cleaning up he now has a nice rifle.
          All the best,
          Grossfuss

            Hi Grossfuss
Yes the gun has now been deactivated,
I think all in all now, with the stock not being the original one to the metalwork and of course repaired , along with the rework to the barrel, for the money involved I think i'm better off saving for that better original one to come along.

So a big Thank you to you all for helping me out on this one,
            Paul
