M1 Carbine - Your opinion ?

Hi,

I have the chance to buy this M1 Carbine. SerialNo. 2,237,974. Unfortunately I can't find this serial in the serial-no. list that was published by the CMP...

I'm awaiting the answer of the seller, until now I don't know the manufacturer or any more markings on that rifle.

What is your opinion about? WW2 made? Refurbished? What does the "51" on the stock mean?

As soon as I have more information I'll inform you!

Hard to say from the pictures.
From the Serial range, it would be a Standard Products M1. It's got a lot of the features that would be correct around this serial range - type 2 barrel band, push-pull safety, flat bolt etc.

Your Carbine was probably made in the March/April 1944 time period. Does the barrel have a manufacturer and date? Standard Products did not manufacture any barrels , and used those from other manufacturers furnished by Ordnance.b
The bolt shown in the Carbine is round, and I believe SP used only flat bolts.

I would assume the "51" on the stock is a rack number.

I though the bolt was a flat top, but on closer inspection I can see it is round which would mean it was changed as SP did use only flat top bolts.

Un-rebuilt ones are very hard to find, so I think it has value. It still looks likes a nice carbine, so it would depend on price.

Second photo looks like "pot-belly" stock.... Definitely post WWII..

Doesn't really look like a pot belly stock. I do not see the cut out for the selector near the top of the receiver on the left side. A picture of the receiver from the top would confirm. I would invest in a good book like Craig Riesch's book on this rifle. It pretty much tell's you everything about these guns. I have owned over 30 of these rifles during the last 20 years. Still have 14 of them in the collection. One of each kind including an Irwin Pedersen. Fun to shoot....not very accurate...but still fun. Be careful, they tend to multiply after you buy your first one!

"Flaming Bomb" with Year 1960 in the Barrel. is that possible?

Sounds like it is a post war rebuild then.
The serial is strange, as that is in the wrong no. range for a Winchester.
