M1 Garand Sniper Scopes

    M1 Garand Sniper Scopes

    I just got this pair of scopes, which are supposed to be for the M1D sniper rifle. However, the mounts are on differently so I'm not sure what they were really on at all. The mounts are not the grey-green phosphate looking variety you see for sale on various sites.

    First question: Do the scopes and mounts look original? And secondly, which configuration is correct for the mount?

    Both scopes have the same reticle arrangement, but one has a fleck of something in it - do these come apart easily for the common man, or are they armorer - only disassembly?

      The mount will only go on the rifle one way. It goes on the left side of the barrel mount. The scope should be attached so that the post on the scope reticle points up. It looks like the top scope in your picture has the scope rotated 90 degrees off, and the reticle would point to the right.

      The black fleck is a part of the coating inside the tube, and this is comon to the scopes. Don't try to take it apart.

        Makes sense it's a scope mount adjustment issue; thanks John. The fellow who sold them to me was the sniper that used them, and said that the scopes could be disassembled but I won't try it. It is not that distracting anyway.
