Early P38

Hello forum

I bought this today from a guy walking into the local gun show.

He wanted $550... and I didn't haggle.

it appears to be an early P38. AC41. This is the first P38 that I found that has a matching serial numbered magazine?

I didn't think they numbered the mags?

He said his uncle brought it back from the war... and it shoots great. Made my heart drop that he said he shot it for the last time yesterday.

bore is nice. wear to the high points of the frame. Holster is coming undone in a few places.

odd markings to the holster.

Nice pistol!
I believe AC (Walther) numbered their mags past the C block in 1942. I own matching mag AC41 611i and have owned AC42 24xxC.

Hi Robert,

You have a 2nd variation ac41.

Walther serial numbered their military magazines from the start of production until the end of the "c" block in 1942.

The holster was likely made very late in 1944 or early 1945.

I would have offered 500 bucks for it. Only kidding, I would have given him the 550
and beat it to my car trunk. Chances are he'll come looking for it after he sees what the dealers there are getting for one. Nice lucky score.

It would be a shame to split this rig apart after all these years. Why not send the holster to Jerry Burney aka lugerholsterrepair? He's reasonable and the best in the business.
