all matching k98 with chrome crap

guy here locally has a k98 with chromed up bolt trim etc. can you unchrome that crap and then reblue? gun is reasonably priced if you guys know of anyone that can unpimp it let me know? thanks p duncan

chrome plating can be reversed and the parts re blued, look for a competent gunsmith to undertake the job.

Really, I would pass it up. For the amount of money to get it back to what it should look like will be expensive and you will still have a refinished rifle. Take that money and buy a good non import. Even if it has a mismatched (but correct bolt), you will still be better off. Ron

I wouldn't bother.

I once found a LSR sniper where the vet had copper plated the checkered buttplate. I took the buttplate to a plating business to have the process reversed. It came out ok for the most part, and while it was certainly worth it for such a piece, I wouldn't do it to something I would have to have reblued.

I have seen some guns that had the chrome removed and then reblued and they didn't look too terribly bad as long as there was not a lot of polishing of the metal before the chrome job.
I live in a fairly rural area where there was a toy & bicycle factory near here in the '50s, '60s, & '70s so we have a plethora of chromed pistols floating around. It seems the ones that were not buffed were the ones that when the chrome was removed (using a reverse electrical charge I think?) looked fairly decent when reblued.
