all matching
all matching guns are gone , there are none anymore that i can find. having said that i got one i wouldn't sell for a thousand bucks. at LEAST 800 would be a starting point in my opinion. how could the pawn shop have been so under priced? serial number should also be on sight base . sight stock, stock channel on part under barrel . small parts trigger assembley etc.

I'm with you Pitts . . . . to find a nice, clean, matching and (apparently) unmolested 98k like this in a pawn shop is a very rare event, but that to top it off the seller would price the rifle at only about 10% of actual retail value? In my experience, these pawn shop guys are typically VERY internet savy . . . . heck, if the pawn shop had done only a cursory search of GunBroker it would have known to price the rifle at 3-4 times the $200 asking price. Also, the pawn shops typically think that all military guns (especially a WWI German one with little "Nazi" eagle marks all over it) comand big prices.
IMO it is really hard to believe that in today's information age a pawn shop would be so off the mark on its priceing of a collectable firearm. Oh well . . . just wish I had been the lucky guy to walk in and find it!

F y i !
I keep trying to express to the collecting world here that yes they are all gone at shows....but there are literally thousands waiting to be scored if you "lazy' hunters who fequent shows, and have such negative opinions , would leave the shows alone for a while, and start hunting the woodwork, as this guy did. THAT is where the real deals are. Best time in my life for hunting is right now, even better than the early 60s. You see lots of folks sand bagged lots of nice s _ _ _ , and now are passing, or just refused to sell their stuff in the 60s , thinking the kids would want it , the are leaving it to them now ......and some kids really could care less , and many times throw it away, or sell it like this deal, so get off the tukas, get out the house, talk to folks you don't know, don't be shy, and get your share, and to the guy I told to just buy this gun, you need to beat feet over and pickup the rest as a "lot" deal, and do not tally on the subject, even if you have to take a loan.I try and can't convince many here who think they know it all about opinions saying things are all gone , but in FACT there are tons of all kinds of items really availible every day, as the truth is that there is lots still there to buy, but this is just another evidence or "proof" what I preach is true. There are many hundreds of deals unmentioned by many here who dont say WHERE they got the stuff they post , as this is the exact way.....so they think they will find more for them if they do not advertise how they are finding the stuff....when this is the exact way....and I, have blown the lid off their secret now, so get out, and hunt in other collectors back yards as I do. That really makes it sweet , when you scoop under others noses, and snag their deals. As for the guy with this gun, Lots of folks like they are will sell stuff fast if you don't move like BLITZ,and always remember even if you give em your number.....they many times will sell them right out from under you.....and wont call back at times , and there are too many collectors looking, memoreis are short, and the time is now to move andale' . (you can send me my commission later)ahaBBBRRRTTTTT!!!Be sure to show the rest as soon as you get back.Last edited by juoneen; 08-17-2012, 03:58 PM.

Gents,
Thanks for all the responses and kind words! This was truly a good find and gives one a breath of fresh air. The pawn shop from which this gem was scored is your typical, guitars, tools and stero equipment pawn shop with some beat up guns thrown in the mix. The owner just thought it was an "old army rifle that no one would want."
