    Percussion Derringer - Need ID'

Got this Percussion, .32 cal. Derringer the other day. The only one I could compare it to was an American Arms Double Barrel Derringer. However, that one was onlt rim fire and was clearly marked on the top of the barrel.

This one looks similar, but, as stated, is percussion. No marking on it that I could find.

It measures about 7" long with the barrel measuring about 3 3/8".

Don't know if the grips are Ivory or Plastic.

    Serian Number is 0018751

Any held in ID'ing it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks, CHUCK

The pistol does look like an American Arms Wheeler's Patent derringer, but something about the barrels don't look right. The pistol is normally found with a combination .22 and .32 rimfire barrel. It came out at a time (1868) when the percussion pistols were being phased out in favor or the cartridge. The contours of the barrel don't look correct and they appear to be missing the sight for each barrel as well as the barrel markings. The grips appear to be modern plastic that has cracked. Looks more like a somewhat skilled person converted it to percussion, and made a new set of grips.

Do the barrels appear to be smoothbore or rifled?
