    Model 1911

Severely battle damaged Model 1911? Nope; just an early example of how Uncle Sam destroyed surplus weapons. Looks like they put it in a U shaped fixture and bent it until it broke. A shame.

Very sad but interesting, would make a nice paperweight! (Rather like our UK deacts ) What is the condition of the barrel?

More than likely all the pieces were sold as scrap metal, and had rusted badly. The barrel is permanently bent inside the slide. It was made by a WWII contractor for replacement barrels, Flannery Bolt. Co.

At least most of the 1911s that were scrapped were pretty much worn out. The real shame was the M1s, M14s and various training rifles like Winchester 75s that were in good to excellent condition which were destroyed in the 1990s.

On the other hand, it's nice to actually have a sample like this for a display. From the birth of the 1911 to the afteryears. Would be great! However, I hate how they just dump so many into the ocean. Metal is still metal, it would've been so much better to melt them down to create something for the peaceful world or back into the military rather than that...

Seems like we still have WWII era 1911A1s and Purple Hearts still in inventory, though!
