    Walther PP (#321263P) - Cal. 9mm?

Here is another PP that has been offered to me: per the slide markings, it appears to be in caliber 9mm. Is this pistol chambered for the 9 x 19 (i.e. Parabellum) cartridge or the 9mm kurtz (i.e. 380) round?

The pistol has post-January 1, 1940 commercial proofs, so I guess that helps to date it (but I would appreicate any info the experts have re: actual date of production).

I assume this would be a wartime "commercial" pistol? Again, any background information or other input would be appreciated.

Caliber would be 9mm Kurz, which I believe was 9X17, or commonly known as .380 ACP in the U.S.

Johnny is right on the caliber of your example. Walther did make up a few PP types in 9MM Parabellum but this caliber apparently proved to be too robust for the design. The scarcity of PPs in 9x19 means they bring a big premium on the collectors market. I think I've seen exactly 2 of these over the years. The intent I believe was for this model to replace the Luger.
This I understand was the primary reason for designing the P38 which is much sturdier and proved to be a real winner for Walther.

That is rare PP, I do not think I ever saw one in person.

Walther also produced this cal. in the PPK which is also extremely rare.

              PP 9mm/K

I have a 9mm/Kurz PPK Alan, I wasn't able to find out a massive amount about it, but they (pp and ppk) in 9mm/Kurz are quite rare. I usually search completed auctions on Gunbroker to get an idea on price...problem is there aren't any....I never see them up on auction. Chris...

As far as I know and I have seen a few of these pistols, have actually owned the PPK in 9mm, they do not have the caliber marked on the barrels to my knowledge. Also both the PP and PPK in 9mm have the magazine release on the bottom of the grip.

Some of these pistols went to the army and were WaA marked.
There are pistol holsters marked with PP9 as well.
