Need help with P38 holster

Hello. I've got a P38 holster which is so worn that I can't read the maker code. I'm thankful to any help at all.... I'm lost with this one.

The Waffenamt mark is also quite worn, but half the eagle + 383 remains. I can't find WaA 383 in any of the online lists that I know of. Does anyone here know what it stands for?

The maker code is almost impossible to read even with a magnifier glass. It's 3 characters followed by 41 all in the same line. Were maker codes always written with small letters only?

Another strange thing is that the holster has markings on the inside??? Does anyone know if these are post war or could it be that they a genuine WWII?:





I did scan the maker code, but as I said it's almost worn off plus the are wear marks that make it even harder to guess what the code might have been

po8, you holster was made in 1941 by hans deuter.the code should be bmo and it was made in augsburg, germany.it is indeed a scarce item and you should be proud of your find. best regards danny

So the WaA 383 tells that the code should be BMO. Which is Hans Deuter Augsburg. Very nice since I prefer to know such things before I buy the holster.

Can anyone please comment on a fair/average price for a holster like this?

Structurally it's in good condition. Cosmetically it's mid range due to wear marks from use. The stichings are broken in 3 places: The bottom part (shown in pic) and the upper stichings on each of the belt straps. The leather seems healthy and would probably react good to some leather care.

Holster Price

Hi P08, Thats the figure I had in mind also, maybe a little more knowing it was the first year the Germans adopted the P38 as the official firearm.
I know P38 was used to desinate 1938 , but 1941 is when it went into full production, and any 1941 P38 holster is in great demand. Hope this helps; Danny

Actually the P38 was in military production in 1939 with the zero series. In 1940 there was the "480" code, followed by the "AC"-no date, "AC"-40 added, and finally the "AC40". The "AC41" followed in 1941 of course.

There are P38 holsters out there dated 1939 and 1940, and also early undated ones (which are also 1940). They are hard to find, but are out there!

Hey this evening I bought the holster from its owner. I offered him 166 USD, but he let me have it for 116 USD. I think that's a good price. Finally I have a genuine holster Now I'll clean it and treat it with some leather grease.

Thanks Matt for the correction.I,m glad you told me. I,m not much on P-38s, I,m more into PPK,s, Lugers , Mausers and my old 1911 buddies. However I do have a 1943 byf that is mint. Thanks. Yes I was lucky. The holster looked quite worn and I think that's why he let me have it so cheap. But I worked on it yesterday and now it really looks much better! It's actually quite nice and I'm surprised how it has improved.


Yes the P38 was made already in 1939. I knew that so it's ok. I just wanted the holster and now I got it
