Mauser vet pick up with an m40 army helmet yesterday.

    Dear Members,

I picked up an M40 army single decal army helmet and a Mauser rifle yesterday.

The seller said they came from a German veteran of WW2, who recently died
at a retirement home in Indio Ca.

The helmet is on the helmet forum.

    Here is the Mauser rifle.

I believe it is not German WW2 and it has an engraved mark on the barrel.

It looks like a crossed sword and a scroll ??????

Does anyone know what this is ?

The manufacture number on it is 17844.

The pictures are not very good, but here they are sorry.

Any comments or advice are welcome.

    Regards Stephen.

You are correct that it is not a German WWII Kar98k Mauser.

Looks like a German World War 1 G98 with a Sporterised stock and post war other nationality receiver markings

Spanish Model 1916 Short Rifle with Falangist crest. It would have been used by the Fascist in the SCW. Neat pick-up. Looks like the cleaning rod is short and the lower barrel band is missing.

Thank you for all your comments and indeed it is a SCW rifle.

It will go well in my collection.

              Thanks again.

              Regards Stephen.

One correction, the crest isn't Falangist it marks the carbine as the property of the Guardia Civil. The GC is the paramilitary , national police of Spain. That aside I believe they did side with Franco in the SCW. The Falange used a crest of an oxen yoke overlayed with a spread of arrows.
