    Pair of Civil War Remington Model 1861 Armys

    A pair of Remington pistols came in on Saturday. They have clearly had a hard life but, I think that they still have some charm left.

    Do any of you guys ever shoot your Civil War firearms? To me they are best left as wall hangers.

    I agree....you can loose a lot of vLue if you put more wear on the finis of the gun , or even wore; break a part..

      Outward appearance aside Jim. It really boils down to mechanical condition. You will have to get someone who really knows the ins and outs of these blackpowder guns in order to decide if they would be safe to shoot. I personally would enjoy them for what they are which is a well over 100 year + piece of history. There are plenty of replicas around which are made from modern steel if you want to try your hand at black powder shooting and that's the route I would suggest to pursue.

        I guess it is best to put the old war horses out to pasture. An added bonus is that one is the 2 line address version with exposed threads and the other is the 3 line address with covered threads. So they are still twins but not identical twins.
