    4 Ground dug Thompson SMGs

I don't usually provide links to other forums but I think an exception can be made here. I suspect many of you will enjoy the before and after pictures of these ground dug Thompsons!!

This also reminded me of something. When the FBI disposed of their hundreds of Thompsons back in the 70s and 80s they purportedly buried them at one of their training facilities. Hmmm!!

    Ground Dug Thompsons

My Dad is an ex-Pennsylvania State Police Captain and remembers when the PSP buried some of their Thompsons in the Hershey area near the old Academy Building. He can't remember the exact spot but makes me want buy a metal detector and look over the area next time I'm up that way.

That thread confuses me; it begins by celebrating how wonderful a ground dug item is and then it shows the finished restorations that no longer look like a ground dug item.

I find it hard to believe that the ground dug versions now look like the pristine ones shown in the 'after' pictures....

A lot of good cosmetic work that's for sure, or are they saying they found another four in addition to the 4 + 2?

I don't know exactly what they did to these but I've seen rusty hulks of guns bead blasted and then finished with a black oxide type of blueing. These guns end up with a flat black matte finish that IMO looks great on a military type firearm.

It's funny how on that forum the guy from Texas keeps asking if any are for sale, guess he doesn't realize that the ATFE still considers them "machine-guns" and are heavily regulated no matter the condition.

He most likely is the ATFE!
