    Mystery Luger WaA66 code

    I picked up this piece yesterday for an unbelievable price, but I have a few questions if anyone can help me out. The pistol is marked DWM but has no chamber markings has N Crown proofs stamp on the grip shows heavy wear looks like .22 it would not photograph well. The right side has no other markings but WaA66. Can any help me figure out this Luger?

    I'm not sure I got all that. What was the part about the grip showing heavy wear like a .22, or does the pistol look like a .22, or is that front strap markings?

    Is the letter suffix a ( t ) ? If so it is one of the variations of the last of the DWM pistols before the change to Mauser. The WaA66 was the Army acceptance mark on these pistols.

      The front grip markings show a stamped 22 ., the serial number is 3604 t.

        From what I can see it appears o be a matching numbers pistol but your above remark has me confused as to what you exactly mean.
        Are the grips marked 22 on the back side towards the front?

          Front grip strap(if you were holding the Luger, it would be under your ring finger) were you normally see military and police unit markings. Its worn down and I can only make out "22." and under that looks like Half of an L.

            From the sketchy inform it sounds like a "1929" DWM Army pistol.

                It's a so called "Sneak" (sorry I know some people hate that phrase) 1929 commercial that was later re- proofed and sent to the military. It's a legit variation and a nice example.

                The 22 mark on the grip strap may be a rack number?

                    I personally dont like the WaA66 as the form should be middle or late 30ies, You should look to other forum, like Luger Gunboard.

                      Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the acceptance eagle post war ?

                        Which war? The pistol was made after WWI and before WWII.

                        The WaA66 was simply the Army acceptance mark applied to commercial pistols in the s, t, u serial number letter suffix block that were transferred to the military.
                        By 1934 Mauser was in production, and as far as I know the WaA66 was not used again.

                          Sorry Johnny, I was not thinking straight and was comparing the eagle (in my head, Doh !!) to the current German acceptance stampings! Please forgive me and ignore my comment (I am getting old )

                            Can you post a photo of the grip strap marking? This possibly was issued to the Landjägerei (rural Prussian police).

                            Just re-looked at photos and note no sear or mag safety which it would have if Landjägerei. Photo of marking would still be interesting.
