We will pause now for Bill to fill us in on the history of this weapon, but stay tuned, plenty more pics to come.

This KAR 98Az (Karbine 98 AZ (mit Aufpfland und Zusammensetzvorrichtung) -with bayonet attachment and stacking hook, was manf. by Erfurt in 1917 and saw service in WW1, after WW1, it was inventoried in the 100,000 man Reichsheer (German Army) and marked 1920 to denote any weapons that were inventoried for the New Army.. Many of this model were either destroyed or sold to emerging nations, or third world countries. This weapons history did not end there, It again saw service with the Third Reich,in the hands of Police, SS, Kreigsmarine, Luftwaffe, and other branches of the Third Reich another I have in the collection is RFV marked Reich Finance Admin... In the period of the 1920 the name was changed to 98a to distinguish them from the long bbl. 98b.. The primary bayonet for the 98az was the Seitengewehr 98/05 which was manuf. durring WW1.. The 98/05 was carried over in to the 1920s and Third Reich period and were marked 1920 as was the rifle for inventory purpose. Accessories will be another thread 98/05 Bayonets can be found with police, Navy, Army, and Luftwaffe (RLM) markings.. Notice all three period markings WW1, 1920, and third reich eagle swastika, and the Waffenamt HzA..Enjoy BILL
