AC41 w/ matching mag for review

    Hi,

Another P38 for review! I'm considering buying this AC41 with one matching mag.

All opinions are very appreciated! I'm still learning more about these pistols. Is it common for some wear to bluing on the slide on these earlier ones? I've seen a lot of AC41's in really rough shape. The seller is a dealer and he is firm at $795.

    Thanks,
    -Steve

    Hi Steve,

That is probably a fair price for one with a matched mag. There is lots of finish wear on that one. I wouldn't call that wear all that common but I wouldn't call it abnormal either. At least, I don't see any rust or pitting. The barrel should have the same serial number as the pistol and the locking block should have "661d" on it. The grips should both have an "E/359" stamp on the inside but no serial number. The mag should have 2 "E/359" stamps on the spine, one high and one low.

    Regards, Leon

Wear is just wear, regardless of what it is on. The fact that the P.38 is early doesn't give it a pass on the wear being disregarded. Values are normally set by the very best examples, and everything below that is priced according to the individual condition.

I pesonally think the asking price is out of line for a P38 showing this much wear. $500 to $600 would IMO be more like it.

795 is too much, dealers tend to hold onto things until the guy comes along who 'just has to have it' and does not know what he should pay. I would say 500-550 would be more like it.

Wow! I have to say I strongly disagree with the low prices here! Imports are selling for $550 these days!!!

This is a very early P38 with a matching magazine! You just don't see those these days any more. Sure it has wear, but this gun actually went though 4 years of war, not the last 2 months! I like the fact that it actually has it's original finish! Many of these early high polish guns have been re-finished.

I agree with Leon, that the grips need to be WaA and barrel and locking block should match as well. Mag should have two "eagle/359" proofs, one high and one low. If everything is correct, I think the price is very fair. If not, I would pass.

I too think the asking is quite fair. A very nice ac 41 with 1 matched mag just sold on GB for 2500...

I agree, that price is fair for a ac41 with matching mag. Even with the honest wear that it shows.
