A really weird pistol

I have no idea what this is. It was a gift(surprise). It is ca. 8" long., it breaks from the top using a crude release catch. The bore appears to be smooth. There is no cartride recess and the head space is almost non-existent as can be seen in the photo. It does appear quite old . Everthing function but it has a horrendus trigger pull. Any help would be appreciated.

Looks to possibly be .410 bore size, and made by someone with metalworking skills. The smoothbore puts it in the NFA classification.

Scotty, you are correct. These are Asian Made originals, Khyber pass or whatever you call it pistols. They can be found in all sorts of configurations and calibers. My favorites are the Martini Action pistols in .303 cal. these are hand made with the crudest tools, and scraps of steel like old railway rails and machinery.

Value is not much, but they deserve a place in any gun collection if only to prove to anti-gunners that banning guns will not stop them from being made. These are made by some of most backward peoples of the world !

Thanks very much for all the responses on this pistol. It could be for a .410 gauge shell but to be honest when the the gun is closed there is near zero room for a cartridge base.It is almost flush with the reciever. It would have to take a rimless cartridge but there is no shoulder in the barrel that I can see that would support a cartridge. In any event I certainly agree it is a hand-made piece but as to what it can fire it is still a mystery to me.

Yep, a kid my high school shop class made a cannon out of stainless steel with an aluminum anodized base, breech loading, single shot. The thing was very modern and would have fit into Star Wars. The workmanship and finish was first class. Can't remember the caliber but think it was .45 acp.

I've travelled in Pakistan, and the gun markets are incredible- I was amazed at the huge variety of international firearms that have made it over there, as well as the ingenuity of the local gunsmiths in fabricating, modifying, and repairing all kinds of weapons. The best part is that you can test-fire anything you want in the back courtyards, and even acquire firearms as a foreigner (strictly cash and carry with no paperwork). Of course you have to dispose of them before leaving...
