PLEASE HELP ME - Need a LUGER pistol

    Hello all,

I am thinking about buying a Luger pistol.

Can you tell me any information about this weapon.

Do you considier it a wise investment?

Would I need a FOID card here in the states? How do I apply?

Where would be the best place to buy one? Would prefer ONLINE if possible.

What do you look for in purchasing this item?

About how much am I going to be spending?

Please let me know either way and please give honest opinions. I look forward to your reply.

I own a Luger pistol and consider it one of the best investments ever. I have watched the value rise every year about $50-$100. I have an all matching BYF-42 in 95% condition, that I bought for $775 4 years ago and now lists in the Blue Book of Gun Valus at close to $1000, so yes they are a good investment.

Check with a local gun shop as to the requirments for buying a handgun in your state. They would know better than anybody else.

Online is a good place to look, but as with any collectable, getting to see it up close and in hand is better. I would check local gun shops and gun shows. Also check the E-stand section here to see if anybody is selling one

Price is going to be hard. Since there is sooooo many different makes and types of Lugers. I think a good idea is to find one you like and post pictures here and have the forum members help you out.

What to look for is again what your wallet can handle. Basically look for one that works, that has a nice clean bore, and that is in your budget. They are super cooll weapons and alot of fun to own, look at, handle, and shoot.

    I hope this helps somewhat.

      It all depends on...

      Hi William,

Well, it all depends on what you are looking for. Are you searching for a shooter or a collectable gun? Or a Imperial or III Reich-era?

Sorry for those boring notes, but when you talk about Lugers value depends on a lot of things... For instance, you can pay, let´s say, US$650.00 for a Russian import, that hardly will become much more valuable in the next few years. On the other hand, if you pay some bucks more and buy a Third Reich Luger or a good Imperial, you will certainly won some money, as stated above.

Personally, if you are planning to buy something to shoot, I think you should go for the reblued or mis-matching pistols, which are cheaper and, in case of any, piece broke, you won´t have to worry too much about it.

This is my humble opinions, but let´s listen what the others talk!

      All the best,

      Douglas.

William, I have several Lugers for sale that were part of a collection I bought last year in order to add four pieces to my Imperial collection. As the others have offered, what you pay depends on what you want. An investment piece that you would not want to shoot will typically run a lot higher than a shooter. If you want a copy of my list, email me at keoki77@earthlink.net.

Last year, I purchased a P08 that was rebarreled and reblued by the East Germans. It is a very nice pistol, chamber is dated 1936 and is marked S/42 for Mauser for that time period. I paid $740.00 for it. Actually, when I found the DDR crown over N mark underneath the barrel, I was very pleased with it, being an East German militaria collector.

                    Hello all

                    Hello all,

Thank you all for the input. Well, I would like an example that saw the war and was used. I would like a gun from WWII only, and not the Imperial era. I would like the gun to be working but I would not fire it. I do NOT want a gun that is mis-matched/re-built or anything.

Do you know where I could find such an example online? Is there one hot-snot dealer out there who knows the best?

Please let me know either way. Thank you.

                    Bill

I can recommend 2 places on the internet that sell Lugers. The first is World of Lugers-Ralph Shattuck.com He has the largest private collection of Lugers in the world. He is located in Peoria AZ and sells them out of his home. He was on the History Channel a few years back on the series "Tales of the Gun. The other place to purchase them is Simpson Ltd.com. They are located in IL. They have a store and will ship them to you with correct federal paperwork that you can obtain from a firearms dealer. They will ship it to the dealer and then you can pick it up from them. Good lock

I have heard that it is almost impossible for you British guys to get permits for working guns. Is that the truth? In Sweden is it quite easy to get a permit for a working handgun .But hard to get permit for a deactivated. So today I have a working pistol: But no deactivated so far.

                        Cheers, Sonny

                          Hi Sonny,
Yes you are right, it is almost impossibe to obtain a firearms certificate over here....
                          Believe me, i have tried..........
You can get a permit for a live weapone but not a deac.......? I knew you Swedes were crazy.........!!
Without wanting to get to political, what are the gun crime figures like over there?
Since hand gun were banned over here firearm related crime stats have gone through the roof, and i think it is the same for Australia as well........
                          Oh well...........

                          All the best,
                          Steve.
