Expert opinion on K98 dot 44 finish

I have come across a Vet bring back K98 dot 1944. Serial munber 316XX. not a Kregs, has bayo mount and disc in the stock. Original war production blue. The k98 has correct waffen marks. However the stock has no finish to it. My question is. Was this an exception. The stock looks unsanded(viewed with a 20X
magnifier). There is no letter code after the serial number as well. So I am sure that it was not mfg. late 1944.The vet son said it never had a finish? Any help would be great! Paul

Bill Thanks that's what I had thought, but I wasn't sure. A friend of mine has a 1944 dot serial #39400 that has a finish. He was told 35 years ago by a former dot. K98 plant worker. That it depended on if they had material on hand to finish it, or they were waiting on another shippment to arrive. That's what they (stock finishing dept) governed weather or not it was finished. I just wanted another opinion. I have a chance to buy the k98. Paul
