As requested in other thread, some full photos of my MG42











and finally, the butt.....now stripped of its black paint



Made of beech, has the corner dowels, and fits snugly on a WW2 german buffer. Has 6 wires on the banding and a hollow release mechanism. Did have a nato style part number stamped on it but this came off with the paint sanding. Am assuming it is post war german butt - the concensus from the previous threaqd was that mine is a wartime MG42 converted to 7.62mm and used post war by German army (barrel door has Rheinmettal logo and nato part number). am now on the look out for a wartime butt.

was planning too but I believe the butts were beech which is this colour? Am oiling it at the moment to see if that makes a difference...not quite sure what colour it should be stained????

Yes, that is the intent. It now has a wartime 7.92 top cover and feed tray, all nicely waffenamted and COS stamped, and a wartime bipod also waffenamptd .

Apart from the butt, bolt and the barrel door catch which are all post war rheinmettal, everything else seems to be german ww2. It is not profusely stamped - it has the usual 2 w'amt at the top near the but, one where the barrel jacket joins the receiver, the clip at the front that locks the flash hider etc. But then my understanding was as the war progressed, there was less waffenamting of individual components and more of finished articles. The inside of the grips are dated 1943.

So anyone with a german wartime bolt, butt and barrel door catch for sale, let me know!!
