What do think to my new MG42?

    Hello there,

I thought I would share with you my new mg42 that I picked up yesterday, it is an NC coded CRA (maget) MG42. It has many waffenampt stamps throughout. I have included some pictures below, but if you require any more of any part then please ask. I believe that all the parts are German, except the charging handle, which is a Yugo part, so I am currently looking to replace the charging jandle with a genuine WW2 German one. It has the original finish throughout, and has a matching bi-pod with the same 1944 date (marked KUR 44), but I think that the bipod could be a converted MG34 bi-pod? This MG42 was deactivated in 2001, and the barrel door still opens, and the barrel can partially swing out of the barrel jacket. Finally, please don't forget to tell me what you think
    Patrick.

Thank you for your positive feedback so far, does anyone know where I might be able to find an WW2 German charging handle for an MG42?
        Many thanks, Patrick

            Hi Phil,
thank you for the link to the charging handle, I will have to look into that one. With regards to the deactivation, the barrel does swing out of the barrel jacket (basically it isn't welded in), but it cannot be removed as it is pinned in at the muzzle end. I hope that answers your question. Kind regards, Patrick.

nice, iv had one in the past where the barrel is pinned solid in the receiver, and only the barrel door could open about an inch or so. Most on the market now have the door welded shut like on mine, im waiting to upload pics of mine soon, just need a decent camera., looks like you have a correct ww2 untouched wood stock aswell, with the wafenmeister added wire around the wrist area to strengthen it.

Still a futuristic looking weapon, just imagine seeing that back during ww2.

                  Hello there,
I thought I would add 2 more photos showing some more of the stamps on my MG42, but also some more pictures of the bi-pod,as I think it is a converted from an MG34 bi-pod? It looks to me like the rectangular holes where the locking catches would have been for use on an MG34, have been covered up when it was turned into an MG42 bi-pod? Finally, there is a picture of my MG42 and my MG34 side by side.

WaA 141 stamp on the top cover:

                  WaA 11 stamp:

                  The bipod pictures:

Pictures on the inside of each leg where I believe the hole has been covered:

                  MG42 and MG34:

looking good, your bipod could also be a converted early mg42 one, mine is an early one that has been converted to standard like yours, but the holes on mine have not been covered up by welding

Curious about what you mean? With a Class III license and a wad load of cash you could own a full auto version. I live in the most anti-firearm state in the country (Massachusetts) and I can basically own anything with the correct permits.

Are de-acts different in the U.S? Don't know a thing about them?

Hi Nordland, I payed £1400 for this MG42, and I think that this was a fair price? Especially considering that all of the parts , except the charging handle, are WW2 German, and as you said, the finish is original! Also thank you to everyone else who has commented so far, much appreciated, Patrick.
