Here are some photos for those interested. It looks like it has a few stories to tell.

It has a nice shiny bore with strong rifling.

As you can see the eagles have been peened, that was a surprise...but other than that the condition was as expected.

Does this indicate it was a Russian capture?

The third photo from the bottom is the right side of the stock, is there an area I should be looking specifically?

I don't see an X anywhere (excepting on the one set of serial numbers), is there a specific place I should look?

The X would be on the reciever, at least on the RCs I've seen. Any electro pencil numbers? Stock does not look to be force match numbered either.

Nope, there are no electro pencil numbers either. I'm going to try to disassemble the rifle tomorrow and see what on the stock in the barrel channel.

Popped the stock off this morning - here are a few more photos to analyze. As you can see the stamped number in the stock matches the receiver, and the bayonet nut looks original to the stock.

Marstar Canada's website currently shows 98K's that it says it imported from Yugoslavia so this seems highly likely to be correct.

I find it interesting that the magazine floorplate was renumbered by simply x'ing out the original numbers, but on the bolt the original numbers were ground off before it was renumbered.

I do not think it is Yugo redone, we did not put that kind of sight protector. And also we marked ours with our crest. I am thinking early RC.

I've posted on a couple of forums and one reasonably common opinion is that it may be a post war Czech rework, or a very late war original BCD stock.

The sight hood is apparently from a Czech VZ 24.
