What is the Eagle N mean? There is an Eagle with an N below it on the other side of the frame... Picked this one up a while a go, not a bad price, came with wartime holster...Guy I bought it from said Eagle N was for police...was he right? In any event, not a bad addition to the collection.

Eagle N is the nitro proof mark, which replaced the earlier Crown N marking.
The Eagle C is the mark of a pistol inspected and stamped for police use, the C being the inspectors initial. There are also Eagle F stamped Sauers, the F again being the inspectors initial.

The checkered mag release pistol is a hard to find variant. From what I've read they were modified by police armorers in '43 in response to an order from the Interior Ministry.Comment
